Posting from the Dark Side

I'm typing this post on a MacBook; my new MacBook to be exact. Why such silliness you ask? Well, I needed a new computer, and since I expect to be doing a whole bunch of Apex programming in Eclipse in the near future, I figured I would take the plunge. How is it? Well, since it doesn't boot into... Read More...

The first rule of any technology used in a business...

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency. Bill Gates Read More...

Back from DevConnections

I spent last week in Las Vegas at the DevConnections conference. It was my first BIG conference, although I've been to many are Code Camps and MSDN Events sessions. This was a whole 'nother ball game. ( A few more pix ) There must have been 5,000+ people there - it was pretty intense. At one... Read More...

A better developer in 6 months

Jim tagged me. So after many months of a quiet blog, I'm back to share my take on the whole thing that's been running around the world . Here's my list, and I think its even in order: Blog 3 times a week. Every day is just not realistic for me. Every other day or so I can do. I think. Finish and expand... Read More...

Some Really Good Podcasts...

My cell phone plays MP3s and I've got one of those little tape adapters so that I can listen to Podcasts in the car on the way to work. Maybe it was just a little post-Code Camp euphoria , but I've heard some really good stuff lately... IT Conversations - “ Lessons Learned While Building Basecamp... Read More...

Building a TiVo Now Playing page in ASP.Net

OK, I had promised to share some code to make the TiVo Now Playing screen available from an ASP.Net page, so here goes… First off, I learned a lot of the TiVo access details by lurking in the forums over at http://www.tivocommunity.com/ . Props to the guys and gals over there. As of TiVo OS version... Read More...

Jim's presenting at CC4!!

My friend Jim is presenting at Code Camp this month! (I've now missed the deadline.) If you're a Dot Net Rocks listener, Jim was the guy saved from Linux and Open Source in the letter a couple of weeks ago, and I was the guy who turned him to the light side. :) He'll be doing a session on getting started... Help with Cancer Research

I happened to be looking for a little information on threading and how the thread pool works when I stumbled across a project at www.grid.org that I found pretty interesting. It works in a manner similar to http://www.seti.org , but instead of looking for life, it's trying to save lives. You download... Read More...

Coding Habits = Life Habits

I've often noticed that when my coding habits or productivity is good, my life habits are good also. Or is it the reverse? So I thought it might be a good idea for me to bang out a quick list, to refer to when things aren't going so smoothly. Eating Habits I find it hard to concentrate when I'm hungry... Read More...

Have you seen Scott and Rory's videos?

The first one is here . The second one is here . Now having followed Scott and Rory's blogs for a while and being a DNR fan, I had anĀ idea that there was a bit more going on than just the obvious on camera humor. In the first installment, check out the grafitti on the walls (WS-POTTY). In the second... Read More...

New Laptop!

My new laptop arrived on Monday. It's a Dell Latitude D610 . I'm pretty happy with it so far, but it is a monster. I had been using one of those Dell superlights, I forget the model, and it's quite a difference. It's pretty fast, but by the time I've installed half of MSDN Universal, it's slowing down...
